Indonesia has been begging with China to stop a dramatic rise in maritime smuggling after Prime Minister Tony Abbot reported a 50% spike in maritime smuggling.
The two countries are also working together on the controversial deal, which critics fear may allow Indonesia to use its naval might to combat illegal fishing in a conflict over potential resource revenues.Indonesia is a member of the Asia-Pacific Maritime Security Forum (AMSF), which met in Singapore on Tuesday to discuss the accord. The new marine security agreement has attracted 1,600 shipping companies in total. However, officials claim that the deal covers more than simply simple logistical and shipping arrangements for Indonesia."It's really more than just logistics; it's really a political issue," the Indonesian foreign minister stated.
