Fioricet, a short-acting barbiturate, is often used with other drugs for headache relief. Some examples of such drugs include coffee, aspirin, and acetaminophen (Tylenol). At lower doses, it relaxes the muscles, which may help alleviate headaches for certain individuals. With big enough doses, barbiturates may be employed as anesthetics and sedatives.
